Understanding Pilates Moves
Pilates moves are not difficult to understand.
In fact, that is the greatness of Pilates moves; they're designed to go easy on the body,
requiring no extreme movements. Pilates moves help the body to build muscle without going away from natural body motions. So Pilates moves
are more about technique than brute force.
Thanks to Pilates, you can get fit without going through the painful, injury-risking workout routines that most people do in order to get and stay fit.
This is one of the things that has made Pilates so popular in Hollywood, where actresses can't afford to get injuries that delay entire movie projects.
It is a low-risk means of achieving a good shape and form. This has also made Pilates popular among women who have recently given birth.
Because Pilates moves put so little stress on the body, they can be a very relaxing experience. Traditional workouts wear you out, exhaust you,
and leave you sore. But Pilates leaves you feeling relaxed and ready to go.
The reason Pilates causes the body so little stress is that the Pilates form is all about achieving a body-wide balance. There are advanced Pilates
moves for experienced Pilates enthusiasts, but a beginner Pilates routine has all of the Pilates moves you'll need to get fit. You will want to avoid
doing any of the advanced Pilates twisting moves without first getting proper instruction and supervision of a professional.
Some people have reported that children with trouble breathing who can't participate in regular, vigorous physical activity can still get in shape
using Pilates moves. Of course this should be done under complete medical supervision. Getting fit will help the child breath better in the long run.
So it is good to know the child can get fit using Pilates moves without getting so winded.
A popular offshoot of Pilates moves, known as the 7 Winsor moves, were developed by Mari Winsor. These can be done by beginners, but you will need
proper training on how to do them and some special equipment with which to do them. It usually only takes about an hour to learn the moves. If you are
experienced with Pilates and have no special health conditions you can learn them from Mari Winsor's DVD video set.
Most Pilates moves can be done on a simple exercise mat. If you are interested in advanced moves, however, there are other pieces of equipment that
may be required. If you are a member of a gym or health club, they probably have all of the equipment you will need there.
Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates. Joseph Pilates himself suffered such diseases as rheumatic fever, rickets, and asthma. Needing a way to exercise
without exacerbating the problems, he developed his Pilates moves. As you would expect, exercising also helped relieve many of the symptoms of his
health problems. Gentle exercises such as Pilates often help symptoms of a wide variety of diseases to improve.
