The REALITY of
Dieting After Pregnancy
When you've recently given birth, one of the first thoughts of self that you may have is how much of the pregnancy weight you've retained.
You don't want to hold on to that weight any longer than you have to hold it, but at the same time you want to stay healthy and provide plenty of nutrients to your new infant.
So fad dieting after pregnancy is not an option.
Society has built a lot of pressure into the culture for women to return to their pre-pregnancy forms. There are whole workout and diet programs designed for women after
pregnancy, many endorsed by popular models and actresses who have given birth and returned to their careers.
It can be done, but you have to have a lot of dedication and time to get it done the right way. It is a lot harder to do when you are a working woman without a lot of money
and with a lot of financial obligations to support your family. You can't afford to hire a full-time fitness trainer and dietitian, which is what these actresses and models
really did to lose their pregnancy weights, not some fad dieting after pregnancy program.
The best option for you in this case would be to take it slowly and be consistent. It took nine months to put on this weight, so give yourself nine months to take it off in
a healthy, consistent manner. This is a reasonable and healthy goal. You need to lose just a little bit of weight each day without having a negative impact on your infant's
health.
If you eat healthy and exercise regularly, it shouldn't be hard to lose a few grams per day. After all, you are feeding two. Just eat a full, balanced diet that consists
mainly of healthy, natural foods and the weight will take care of itself. Throw in plenty of exercise to keep your own body healthy and fit and you should be fine. Where
most people fail is in consistency, so just don't let that be you.
Since your health and the resulting health of your infant are the primary concerns during this time, you should definitely have the oversight of your doctor in this manner.
Your doctor my also want you to see a dietitian once or twice to get you set up on an appropriate plan. Other than that, the rest is all up to you. Follow a healthy diet and,
above all else, avoid fad dieting after pregnancy.
